Kathleen Dietrich Photography

Hi, I'm Kathleen!

I spent much of my professional career in Austral-Asia. With the project files, computers and printers to carry along, the camera often was left behind. Memories were captured with a cellphone.

I retired and met a fantastic photographer and again picked up a camera. My primary area of interest is wild life photography, I can spend hours watching animals either in remote locations of the globe or in my back yard. The long lens allows one to be up close and personal without disruption.

I also enjoy travel photography, astrophotography and occasionally landscapes.

Through my lens...

A small sample of my favourite photos

My Three Favourite Photography Destinations

Polar Regions

They say you go to Antartica first for the penguins, and the second time for the Ice. The high artic is as equally compelling. This photo is Baffin Island in the Canadian High Arctic.

Canadian Rockies

Jasper National Park is amazing. This is Johnson Canyon.

Zambia

There is nothing quite like sitting on the river bank of the mighty Zambezi River watching the sun set, and the animals coming to water. This is a tributary.

What Photography Means To Me

Photography is part of who I am

I absolutely love nature, I love adventure travel and expeditions to the high Arctic, Antartica and Africa. I love watching wildlife in their natural habitat and the peace of being a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of day to day life.

Photography allows me to share my photos and experiences, and to capture the beauty of the natural world.

My favourite Photo

This will change frequently. But a consistent favourite photo is this shot, taken in South Georgia. The day was absolutely beautiful. Wet landing amongst boisterous seal pups and a 1.5 km walk up from the beach, through king penguins, and fur seals, along a creek to come upon this majestic scene. A King penguin colony. Lots of chicks and the ever present skuas circling overhead looking for a feed. What the photo can not capture is the sound of thousands of penguins, or the smell.

My Camera

I love my camera deeply—not just as a tool, but as a constant companion in my journey through life.

It's been with me across continents, capturing moments both grand and intimate, giving me the power to freeze time and tell stories through light and perspective. From quiet alleys in old towns to sweeping mountain vistas, it has helped me see the world more clearly and express the way I feel about it.
